• Hypertrophic and Keloid scars: These types of scars are usually associated with mild to moderate inflammation and often exhibit excessive amounts of collagen and elastin – making them bulkier and thicker. If left untreated, hypertrophic and keloid scars continue to thicken beyond the initial footprint of the incision line. Sequel Scar Defense Serum and Ceramend are ideal topical creams for these types of scars – whether they are early or late. C-section scars that are hypertrophic or keloid-like may progress if not treated early. Laser therapy for these scars may include fractional laser, vbeam laser, or BBL.

• Hyperpigmented and Discolored scars are darker than the normal skin as a result of non-selective stimulation of pigment in the scar tissue. C-section scars are commonly associated with hyperpigmentation, discoloration, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. • Scar Equilibrium is a concept developed by Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian and refers to a point in skin physiology when the scar returns to normal function and morphology. We expect a scar to become like the normal skin in both its function and appearance. CERAMEND is an excellent ceramide-based moisturizer that restores the natural barrier function of the skin. • Topical scar therapy can improve the look of your scar but cannot work to improve C-section scars that have dehisced (opened up), become infected or severely inflamed, or are incorrectly sutured.
